The Power to Change
Lynemouth was a traditional coal-fired power station dating from the 1970s that was facing closure by the end of 2015. However, it was the perfect site for conversion to a woody biomass-fired generation system that could provide sustainable, low CO2 energy. TDS were on hand to help deliver structural steelwork vital to enable the conversion to be successfully instigated and completed.
Our specialist team provided detailing for the structural steelwork, including all staircases, flooring and handrails, that formed an accessible tower for the power station’s delivery conveyors. Our involvement in the project was made up of two phases, first to provide the required detailing, second to supply phased 3D marking plans for the steelwork’s installation.
The design team supplied DWG models that were then imported into TEKLA, this allowed us to check the clearances and mountings of chutes and conveyers that would be provided by others. It also enabled us to group sections of the structures into ‘lots’, as requested by the client, to fall inline with the delivery and installation sequence.
The 3D BIM models we created, along with snapshots, were also indispensable for liaising with our client. By being able to visualise any of their queries we could answer questions quickly and specifically and offer a timely response and solution. Our work on the Lynemouth Power Station is another great example of the power of our expertise, put into practice, to deliver a successful project on time and on budget.
